As you see from my post, this is about the Singapore Asean Scholarships. I am going to share my experience about the process of applying and the test and also the deadly interview which causes me to fail. well, anyway lets get ahead. for the applying, I don't think its that hard. I don't use any special tactics and I don't post any "big" achievements anyway but I still passed. For applying the scholarship be sure to use your highest score, in my country(Indonesia) we got 2 kind of scores, one is the school report and the other one is the national exam (UN). in my case, I use my UN score and I just passed through like "that". So, from my point of view, I think that the applying is not very deadly at all but beware of the next step after applying.but, before that let me give you the prove that I passed the applying so that you don't think im just spouting non sense.
ah, a prove :)
Singapore Asean Scholarship Selection Test
Ah, finally we reach the hardest part of this blog x_x . Now, after sharing my applying procedures, im going to explain about the selection test. Before the test I was on holiday and the timing was perfect so that I can use my holiday for study. For my study I bought singaporeans mathematics and English books. I forgot to tell that the subject which is going to be tested is English, Math and general knowledge ( you can think of the last part as an IQ test or whatever). my first experience when starting to read the books I bought is like being abducted by some alien races or something like that. I can't utter a word after learning that the material for the test is very advanced compared to my country. just imagine that the secondary 2(same as 2th grade at junior high school) in Singapore is like 1st grade in senior high school in my country. I quickly learn from the book and at that time i only got 4 weeks from the test day.
After studying don't forgot to look for guides and help from the internet about the test. I did some browsing about the test and i found some interesting things. okay so let me tell you that what im about to tell you might just be the "secret weapon" you need to pass the test. the first thing is read some books that contains essays. I read on of those books and that really helps me because i have to make essays in the English test. For the Essay, try to be unique as possible but try to stay at the topic given. try to use phrases or something that would make your essay more interesting to read and try to give your conclusion at the end of the essay. Remember that essay is very important at this test, because the will use your essay for the interview too, so try to do your best at the essay even if you think that you already lose your hope at the other test , because that's exactly like how i felt when doing the test. Hehe sorry to tell you but for me studying isn't just my thing, so i still find the test hard.
Now, the second "secret weapon" is the general ability test. Haha, you might fint it surprising, but im not joking. the general ability test is very important and most people failed on that part. so, this is the trick: the test consist of 40 - 50 numbers of questions and you will be given 20 minutes to finish the test. Don't worry, the time is enough. But, only if you use them wisely. the question is about picture puzzle , not really hard, you think? you are very WRONG!!! the starting questions might be easy, but it gets harder and harder.if you spent too much time at the beginning, you might run out of time and you might not be able to finish the test which is very vital for your scholarship. if you don't answer most of the questions, then bye bye scholarship.
Now lets talk about the math. Now i won't talk much like before. i will only say 3 words : HARD AS HELL!!!!!. the math part is very hard. but still im able to answer all the question. Ahhh, i sounded like a pro didn't i? well that's completely wrong, i created my own formulae to finish the question. the question consist of 30 essays and you will be given 2 hours to answer all the questions. if you don't study at all, you will have 2 hours of hell :). my only guide for the math part is study. I didn't have any tricks for the math. you must study on your own, but don't worry about it too much. focus on what you can. i only manage to answer like half of the math questions and i still passed the test.
For the English test, it depends on the people, i have read other blogs that say that the English is easy, well that doesn't goes like that for me. Same like math, you should study for this one. it consist of LOTS of multiple choices questions and you will be given 2 hours or maybe more.
Singapore Asean Scholarship Selection Interview
Now, im going to tell you about the interview. As you know, this is the part that i failed. in this part, you will be interviewed by 3 peoples in my case and the room will be cold, so prepare your jacket. Please be relaxed at the interview, so that you could listen to the interviewer and don't forgot to learn you Speaking and listening parts of your English. I made a mistake at this part, i underestimate this part of the test, so in hope that no one do the same mistake as i made, i created this blog. Thank you for reading :).
